Mountains

If there is one thing that defines the Gorbeia skyline, it is Mount Gorbeia. From the summit, at an altitude of 1,482 metres, the panoramic views are breathtaking. There you will also find the ‘Cross of Gorbeia’, a landmark of Basque mountaineering and a symbol of the Basque Country. It is a construction just over 17 metres high with a structure reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower. If you visit us on New Year's Eve or New Year's Eve, join in the tradition of climbing up to the cross on that day.

Another emblematic mountain, for its historical value and natural diversity, is the Itzina massif. Shaped like a ‘bowl’, its interior is a surprising labyrinth dotted with caves and legends of Basque mythology.

There are marked routes and trails to climb these and other mountains. Visit the routes section of this website or go to the tourist offices and park houses or Parketxes where they will give you the recommendations you need and a map for your route.

Remember that in Euskadi, when we come across people walking, we say Aupa!
